#1 Clemson Eases Past Miami, N. Carolina & Oklahoma Grab Key Wins

There have been a lot of false dawns for Miami over the last few years. This might be one of them, but it also might not be fair to draw conclusions based on a game with #1 Clemson. That’s because the Tigers eased to a 42-17 win over the #7 team on Saturday night, riding the back of Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne once more for the fairly easy victory. Lawrence was 29-42 for just shy of 300 yards while Etienne carried the ball just 17 times for a total of 149 yards rushing and 2 TD’s.

They led throughout the going, giving up just two TD’s, one of which was a blocked field goal in the second quarter. Elsewhere in the ACC, the North Carolina Tar Heels, ranked #8, are showing some mettle at more than just dribbling a basketball. They knocked off Virginia Tech (#19) 56-45 to remain unbeaten thus far on Saturday. Michael Carter was astounding running the ball, picking up two touchdowns and 214 yards on just 17 carries while QB Sam Howell had only five incompletions and 257 yards. Lastly, it’s starting to look like the Big 12 will have a hard time getting a playoff bid this year. Oklahoma, 1-2 coming into Saturday, knocked off rivals Texas in four overtimes to send both teams to 2-2 on the season. The 53-45 win saw plenty of errors from both sides, but it did see Sam Ehlinger throw for almost 300 yards and run for over 100 in the losing effort.
