2022 NBA MVP: Full voting results and breakdown for Nikola Jokic over Joel Embiid

Nikola Jokic has been named MVP of the 2021-22 NBA season, beating out finalists Joel Embiid and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Jokic was certainly a worthy MVP winner, earning the honor for the second consecutive season by averaging 27.1 points, 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists to lead the Nuggets to a 48-34 record despite the season-long absences of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr.

Embiid and Antetokounmpo, however, also had worthy cases to take home MVP honors, with Embiid taking home the scoring title while leading the 76ers to a 51-31 record while Antetokounmpo’s efforts also led the Bucks to a 51-31 record.

The NBA’s Most Valuable Player is voted upon by a panel of 100 media members, who rank MVP candidates first through fifth.

First-place votes are worth 10 points, second-place votes are worth seven points, third-place votes are worth five points, fourth-place votes are worth three points and fifth-place votes are worth one point.

  • Jokic won MVP by 169 points, largely a product of his earning 65 first-place votes to Embiid’s 26
  • Outside of the three finalists, Suns guard Devin Booker and Mavericks guard Luka Doncic each earned over 100 points
  • Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James and Kevin Durant each received at least one fifth-place vote
  • James is the only player to receive a vote whose team did not qualify for the postseason
  • 22-year-old Ja Morant is the youngest player to receive MVP votes, finishing sixth with 10 total points
