It just seems inevitable these days that the Alabama Crimson Tide are going to win the College Football National Championship. That’s exactly what they officially did on Monday night, obliterating Ohio State 52-24 to do so and take their sixth title over since 2009. They just simply, as the score would suggest, could not be contained offensively. Their three big offensive stars had flawless nights and put up big numbers, with Heisman winner DeVonta Smith making 12 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns, quarterback Mac Jones throwing for 464 yards and five touchdowns, and running back Najee Harris racking up two touchdowns and 79 yards on what was a slightly ‘quiet’ night for him.

The Buckeyes had kept it close for the opening quarter and change, but they just couldn’t keep up for long, as the Tide pulled away with a strong period in which they outscored their opponents 28-7. The second half would see ‘Bama ‘win’ it 17-7, further pulling away to give them the outlandish score we ended up with. Buckeyes QB Justin Fields did his best in producing 194 yards through the air and 67 on the ground to go with a single TD, but it wasn’t nearly enough to stop a Tide team that racked up over 600 yards of total offense. This is, what Alabama claims, is their 18th overall national title, and it also placed head coach Nick Saban on top of the list for most D-I nattys, surpassing fellow ‘Bama coach Bear Bryant with his seventh victory. Alabama finished at 13-0 overall, with 11 of those wins coming in the SEC and two over Notre Dame and then Ohio State, perennial powerhouses, underlining just how good and dominant their 2020/21 was.
