The Oakland Athletics are one of the best teams in baseball at the moment, and because of that, they became the fourth team to seal a place in this season’s playoffs on Friday night thanks to a 6-0 shutout victory over the San Francisco Giants at home. Chris Bassitt was very solid in pitching six and 2/3 innings, and the bullpen picked up right where he left off.
Meanwhile, the hitting was highlighted by Matt Olson’s three-run blast in the third inning that made the score 4-0. Three others had RBI singles (prior to and after) the homer, and those also helped make a big difference on a dominant night. Despite making the playoffs, the team made it very clear they have a larger goal: capturing the AL West title. If and when they do that, they say they will celebrate, as they have been looking for a way to take down the Houston Astros for some time now in that division. This will be their sixth postseason appearance in the last nine years, but they still have yet to win that division since 2013. They can do so as early as Saturday with the right results.
