Astros Use The Long Ball, Extend ALCS

The Tampa Bay Rays could have advanced to their first World Series ever on Wednesday night. The keyword was could, however, as the Houston Astros prevented a sweep by winning 4-3 in San Diego on the night, effectively extending the series for at least another day. It didn’t take long for Jose Altuve, the goat of Tuesday’s loss, to make up for his error.

He hit a home run in the bottom of the first inning to hand the Astros a 1-0 lead. He followed that up two frames later with a double that drove in another run, putting them up 2-0. Randy Arozarena, of course, leveled up matters at 2 apiece with a bomb in the fourth, but Joey Springer hit a two-run shot of his own in the bottom of the fifth that proved to be enough for the win. A ninth inning rally plated on run for the Rays, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Astros held on to win it. Tampa, now up 3-1 in the series, will have a second chance to close it out on Thursday evening.
