Mookie Betts has a long way to go toward repaying the massive amount of money the Los Angeles Dodgers paid for his long-term services, but he took a good, solid step toward that on Thursday night against the San Diego Padres. In the eventual 11-2 win, Betts would go yard not once or twice, but three times on the night as part of a perfect 4 for 4 evening that also included a HBP.
In doing so, he also set a record as well. It was his sixth three-homer game of his career. The only others to have done that are Sammy Sosa and lesser known Johnny Mize. Betts accomplished it in just 813 total games, while Mize needed over 1800 and Sosa over 2300 to get there. So, it’s safe to say: Betts is probably going to shatter that record, and many others before he’s done playing baseball.
