In another strange day in the world of sports on Wednesday, we got yet another doubleheader in Major League Baseball that pitted the New York Yankees against the Braves in Atlanta. And unlike the opening two games held earlier in the season in New York, the Braves were the ones to come out on top in both outings here. In the first game, they won 5-1 thanks in large part to debuting pitcher Ian Anderson.
The Braves’ top pitching prospect went six innings and only allowed one run on one single hit- a Luke Voit home run- to show he is in fact one to keep an eye on going forward. Ronald Acuna, Dansby Swanson, and Marcell Ozuna hit homers in the game to help them build the lead. Then, in the night cap, it was a tight duel throughout the truncated seven-inning affair. The Yankees scored first via a sacrifice fly, but Freddie Freeman gave the Braves the last laugh with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth that took them to a 2-1 win. Atlanta are now 18-12 overall and are 12-4 at home thus far.
