Not too many people, quite honestly, would have been enthralled by the Thursday Night Football offering this week. At least if they were looking at it on paper. Or, of course, fans of the Denver Broncos or the New York Jets. But that’s what we had. A battle of two 0-3 teams that were desperate for a win.
Unfortunately for the Jets, they will have to wait a bit longer as they fell 37-28 at home. Melvin Gordon wrapped up matters late in the fourth quarter with a TD scamper to put them ahead with an unassailable advantage, making up for some inconsistent play from QB Brett Rypien. Rypien had two TD’s and three interception tosses as well as 242 yards in a 19-31 effort. Tim Patrick grabbed six catches for over 100 yards and a touchdown. Sam Darnold, meanwhile, did not account for a throwing TD but did have one via the ground route and also had over 300 all-purpose yards in the defeat that virtually rules out any and all hopes of a playoff appearance once again.
