Cavaliers, Dwyane Wade agree to contract
The former dynamic duo of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade just joined forces for the first time since they played together in the Miami Heat.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Dwyane Wade agreed to the veteran minimum $2.3 million one-year deal.
This will add a future hall of fame veteran to an already very talented Cavalier lineup.
“I’m happy that we were able to keep him away from everybody else,” James said after practice yesterday afternoon.
The last time these James and Wade suited up in the same uniform, they won back to back NBA titles in 2012 and 2013.
“It’s a guy, come on, man, this is like one of my best friends,” James said. “It’s kind of like when you start school and you walk into the classroom and you’re not quite sure who your classmates are and when you walk in there and one of your best friends is in there, you’re like, ‘Oh, yeah, this is going to be fun. It’s going to be a good class.’ That’s the type of feeling I got.”
Wade had a short, one year stint in Chicago. His contract, however, was bought out which allowed him to explore other options such as the Cavaliers.
Just a few days before this deal was made, Carmelo Anthony was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder. There were many rumblings that Anthony could possibly end up in cleveland, but it never came to fruition.
“I mean, from a friend perspective, I wish [Anthony] would have came and we could have worked some things out,” James said. “But at the end of the day I think our front office has done a great job and either the Knicks felt or we felt it just didn’t work out. And it worked out for the Thunder. So, like I said, I’ve been pretty much even-keeled this summer. I wish he would have been here. It would have been great to have him. I love Melo’s game. I love D-Wade’s game. I love CP’s game. You know know how I feel about those three but that doesn’t take anything away from what we got in that locker room which is a lot. I look forward to continuing to grow with these guys, especially the new guys.”
Regardless, this makes Cleveland a much more dangerous team heading into the 2017 season. While Wade is out of his prime, the combination of him and James is scary.
