The NBA Playoffs rolled on on Friday, and with it came even more disappointment for the Philadelphia 76ers. Long hopeful that the ‘process’ would pay off, it’s beginning as it never will, as they dropped to a third consecutive defeat to the Boston Celtics, leaving them on the brink of elimination. The Celtics’ 102-94 victory was anything but pretty, utilizing 24 points from Kemba Walker and a late 10-0 run to stave off the Sixers and almost ensure they’ll be moving on. Joel Embiid finished as the game’s highest scorer with 30, but the mistakes he made during the stretch will be what is remembered.
That helped Boston go on that aforementioned 10-0 run, and it saw their playoff hopes all but evaporate. In the late game of the day, the Dallas Mavericks took on the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 3 of their series. Unfortunately for the Mavericks, they lost and had more injury added to that insult in the form of Luka Doncic spraining his ankle. The 130-122 was bad enough for the Mavs, but losing their star man to injury is only going to make this potential upset even more unlikely. Even if he does play from here, it’s tough to imagine him having anywhere near the effect he has had previously. Kristaps Porzingis stepped up and had 34 points, but it was not enough to cancel out Kawhi Leonard’s 36 as the Clippers went up 2-1 in the series. The Utah Jazz also went up 2-1 in their series with the Denver Nuggets on Friday. The Toronto Raptors are cruising with a 3-0 lead over the lowly Brooklyn Nets.
