Chelsea Premier League fixtures: Full schedule, dates, times, predictions for the 2022/23 EPL season

After a 2021/22 campaign no-one could have seen coming off the pitch, Chelsea will start 2022/23 under new owners.

Todd Boehly takes over a team who qualified for the Champions League by finishing third last time out — and head coach Thomas Tuchel will no doubt hope his players can challenge for the Premier League.

Despite the uncertainty around the future of the club’s ownership, Chelsea came agonisingly close to winning the most recent editions of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, losing to Liverpool on penalties in the finals of both competitions.

What dates do Boehly and Blues fans need to put in their diary? Here’s the schedule for the coming season.

Chelsea Premier League fixtures 2022/23

Chelsea’s 2022/23 fixtures will be released on Thursday, June 16 at 9 a.m. BST (4 a.m. ET). In addition to the near month-long break for the FIFA World Cup (Nov. 14-Dec. 18), there will be two FIFA international breaks: Sept. 19-27, 2022 and March 20-28, 2023.

According to a report in The Times, a total of 16 Premier League matchdays will be played before the FIFA World Cup break, and the remaining 22 following the World Cup.

In order to squeeze in 16 Premier League matchdays before the World Cup, there will need to be two midweek slates. A midweek in August (Aug. 31 would make most sense to avoid early season fixture congestion and potential injuries) and another on Oct. 19 are the available slots.

Two midweek dates post-World Cup will also be required given the two weekends dedicated to the FA Cup in January. If the Premier League maintains its three-matchday tradition around the holidays, then Jan. 4 could be one option. The other most likely slot would be either Feb. 8 or May 3 given other competitions and the late March FIFA break. Last season the Premier League played the February midweek, leaving May open for rescheduled matches.

The Sporting News will bring you all the fixtures below as soon as they are released on Thursday, June 16 at 9 a.m. BST (4 a.m. ET).

Chelsea Premier League projection & odds

Bookmakers have tended to rely on the 2021/22 Premier League table for their odds on who will win the title in 2022/23, although Tottenham’s return to the top four means they join Chelsea as third favourites ahead of the new season.

Challenging reigning champions Manchester City and Liverpool, who finished 18 points ahead of Chelsea in second, would represent a considerable achievement — not least when Tuchel has had to deal with such a period of uncertainty at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea best & worst Premier League finish

Chelsea have won the Premier League five times, most recently finishing first in 2016/17 under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

Jose Mourinho guided Chelsea to successive titles in 2004/05 and 2005/06, signalling an abrupt change in English football as former club owner Roman Abramovich’s wealth heralded vast transfer outlays.

Before Abramovich took over, Chelsea often had to settle for being top-flight also-rans. Their worst finish was in 1993/94, when they finished 14th under player-manager and England midfield legend Glenn Hoddle.
