Chiefs Close In On AFC West, Steelers Waltz Past Jags

There is a certain inevitability about how the Kansas City Chiefs play. While they have not been at the races 100% of the time during this strange season, there is no doubt how good they are. They are 9-1 after Sunday night when they defeated their AFC West rival Las Vegas. The Raiders, who were 6-3 ahead of the meeting, threw everything they had at the Chiefs, but in the end it was not enough as they fell short 35-31. Patrick Mahomes, who had two touchdown tosses and 348 yards in the air, found Travis Kelce, who the Raiders just could need to keep a hold on, with 28 seconds to go to seal the victory.

An interception of Derek Carr, who had thrown three touchdowns of his own, was what clinched it for good. With the win, the Chiefs are three ahead with six games to go, leaving the Raiders’ chances at slim to none to catch them now. The Chiefs, though, are still going to have to hope the Pittsburgh Steelers slip up to give them a shot at the #1 seed in the AFC. That’s because they, of course, handled their business on Sunday by defeating the woeful Jacksonville Jaguars by a score of 27-3. With the win, the Steelers are now 10-0 on the season while the Jags fell to a pitiful 1-9. The Jaguars scored the game’s first points in the first quarter with a field goal, but the Steelers scored 17 unanswered in the second and then pulled away by ten more in the fourth to put a nail in it.
