The Los Angeles Clippers might not have specifically told Doc Rivers that he had to lead the team to the NBA title this past season. But they surely would have wanted a better result that a second-round elimination at the hands of the Denver Nuggets in a series in which they had control only to let it slip away.
As a result of that, they have fired the veteran NBA coach and will be looking for a new man to lead the charge next season. The term ‘mutual decision’ was used to describe the move, but we all know this was a move that the Clippers alone wanted to make after they had paid big money to bring in both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George last summer to be a force in the West and league as a whole. Rivers helped lead them to the West’s fourth-best regular season record at 49-23, but giving up a 3-1 edge in that aforementioned series was just too much for him to keep his job. Now the attention will turn to who replaces Rivers and whether he will be able to lead them to the promised land or not.
