The San Diego Padres have certainly spent their fair share of money in the past year or so. And so far it is working for them in the 2021 season. No one says it will be easy to keep up with the traditional dominates the National League West, the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that hasn’t kept the Padres from making a go of it. After Monday night, they have won eight of 11 games. This particular affair, a 6-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, was led by the likes of Yu Darvish and Wil Myers.

Darvish was fantastic on the mound for them, allowing only three hits and one run in seven innings of work. Even that run he gave up was a slight fluke, as it came courtesy of what was essentially a blooper. On the offensive side of things, Myers was the one that carried the load, contributing to the cause with five of the team’s six runs batted in. Singles to drive in runs came in the first and seventh frames while he had a two-run homer in the sixth. His hit in the seventh pushed their lead up to 6-1, virtually ensuring they would win the game. That makes it four wins in a row now for the Fathers, putting them just a half-game back of the mighty Dodgers (8-2) in the early stages of the NL West fight.
