The Los Angeles Lakers made it very clear in the buildup to their Western Conference Finals series with the Denver Nuggets that they respected their opponents immensely. They definitely showed that on Friday night as they eased toward a 126-114 victory to get off to the perfect start. Anthony Davis was the main man leading the charge, as he scored 37 points (along with ten rebounds to grab a double-double).
LeBron James also added his own double-double, scoring 15 points and dishing out 12 assists. The Lakers were largely in control of the first three quarters, so they were able to ease off the gas some in the final quarter as the Nuggets outscored them by 12 in the final period. No harm there, but the Lakers will know all too well that this is far from over given the mental fortitude of the Nuggets in the previous two series’ they have been in. Nikola Jokic led the way for Denver on this evening with 21 points, and they will have to know that they are going to need more from both him and Jamal Murray if they want to advance to the NBA Finals.
