Dinamo Zagreb vs. Chelsea: Time, TV channel, stream, betting odds for UEFA Champions League match

Chelsea can end a run of two away defeats by winning on the road for the first time since the opening weekend of the Premier League season when the Blues begin their 2022/23 UEFA Champions League campaign with a trip to Dinamo Zagreb.

The reigning Croatian champions are back in the group stage of the competition for the first time since 2019/20, avoiding a third successive unsuccessful qualification campaign by overcoming a 1-0 first-leg defeat to Bodo/Glimt to win the return game 4-1 at home courtesy of two goals in extra time.

Stadion Maksimir is not the easiest of places to attempt to improve an unconvincing away run. Chelsea’s opponents can make it 20 consecutive games unbeaten at home if they avoid defeat, as well as winning for a 17th time in that run if they start with three points in Group E.

Here’s the latest on how to watch the game, how the teams might start and the betting odds.

Dinamo Zagreb vs. Chelsea predicted lineups

Defender Bosko Sutalo, who joined Dinamo from Italian side Atalanta for £3.6 million ($4.1m) in June, may not return this season after having surgery on ligament damage.

Midfielder Robert Ljubicic — a £2.25 ($2.6m) addition in midfield from Rapid Vienna — and forward Josip Drmic, who arrived on a free from Norwich City, could make their Champions League debuts for the club.

The duo were introduced from the bench as Dinamo won 3-1 at home on Friday to Rijeka, the team in last place in the Croatian top flight.

Dinamo Zagreb predicted lineup (4-1-4-1): Livakovic (GK) — Ristovski, Sutalo, Lauritsen, Bockaj — Misic — Spikic, Ivanusec, Baturina, Orsic —  Petkovic

N’Golo Kante was a key part of Chelsea’s Champions League triumph in 2020/21 and the midfielder’s expected absence until at least the end of September with a hamstring injury was felt by his side during their recent defeats at Southampton and Leeds United.

Striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined from Barcelona on transfer deadline day, is out with a broken jaw he sustained during an attack on his home but fellow new signing Denis Zakaria — on loan from Juventus — could make his debut after missing the win over West Ham United on Saturday while he was awaiting a work permit.

Chelsea predicted lineup (3-5-2): Mendy (GK) — Fofana, Silva, Koulibaly — James, Gallagher, Zakaria, Kovacic, Cucurella — Pulisic, Sterling

Dinamo Zagreb vs. Chelsea betting odds

An upset is not inconceivable for underdogs who have lost one of their past 11 home games in European competition — although that came when Dinamo last met an English side, West Ham winning 2-0 in Zagreb in the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League group stage.

Their previous hosting of Premier League visitors might give hope to punters fancying their long odds: a memorable 3-0 win in extra time to send Dinamo through on aggregate on a gloomy night for Tottenham Hotspur even by the standards of Jose Mourinho’s reign at the time.

Manchester City also came away with a 4-1 win during the group stage of Dinamo’s last appearance in the Champions League proper, when they finished bottom of their section.
