Dodgers Defeat Astros In Extras, Kelly Suspended
Thankfully, for everyone involved, matters cooled down a great deal in game two of a two-game set between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros on Wednesday night. Before the game had even taken place, news came out that Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly, who threw at Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa (and taunted him, too), would be suspended for the next eight games.
So, that put a damper on things just a little. In terms of the play on the field, though, this was about as high quality and tight as it gets. Both teams had plated a single run each- both in the second inning- within the confines of ‘regulation,’ forcing the game into extra innings. Even with the new rules in place, nothing happened until the 11th. Mookie Betts doubled in a run to give the visiting Dodgers a 2-1 lead only to see the aforementioned Correa single in the tying run. It would take two more innings, but the deadlock was ultimately broken for good as Edwin Rios slammed a two-run homer to make it 4-2 and hand the Dodgers a sweep of their rivals.
