The Alabama Crimson Tide didn’t have it all their own way in the first half. In fact, it was obvious from the get-go it wasn’t going to be easy. The Georgia Bulldogs intercepted them, after all, on the very first play from scrimmage. However, Alabama recovered only to trail 24-20 at halftime. That’s when they turned up the heat, coming out of the locker room and dominating in the second half to the tune of scoring 21 unanswered points.
Quarterback Mac Jones posted 417 yards and four touchdown tosses on 24-32 through the air, while running back Najee Harris ran for 152 yards on 31 carries, a tough night for his very high standards. Devonta Smith caught 11 balls for 167 yards and two TD’s as well, while Georgia QB Stetson Bennett struggled by completing less than half of his 40 passes and throwing three picks. The #2 Crimson Tide are now 4-0 while the #3 Bulldogs, likely to drop a little, are now 3-1. It was not a kind day for other ranked teams, either, with #5 North Carolina losing to Florida State, #15 Auburn falling to South Carolina, and #18 being defeated badly by Kentucky. #12 Notre Dame, meanwhile, held off Louisville in an ugly affair by a 12-7 score. #1 Clemson romped past Georgia Tech 73-7, though some will make a case Alabama should jump them for that top spot off the back of this victory.
