EA Is Developing The Sims 5, Working Title ‘Project Rene’

The Sims 4 became free to play across PC and consoles this week, and now EA is turning its attention to a brand new game in the series.

Yesterday, EA held a Behind The Sims Summit(Opens in a new window), which you can watch below. As well as updates on what to expect from the existing games, the next generation of The Sims was teased along with its working title of “Project Rene.”

Lyndsay Pearson, vice president of Franchise Creative for The Sims, explained how Project Rene is still in the very early stages of development but wanted to share some details. The name was chosen “to be reminiscent of words like renaissance and rebirth to represent the team’s renewed commitment for The Sims’ bright future.” I’d be surprised to see the final game called anything other than “The Sims 5” or just simply “The Sims,” though.

Pearson says Project Rene “will fundamentally evolve how Sims think and behave, how players create and customize their worlds, and innovate in entirely new ways.”

For players, that means new tools that allow for a lot more flexibility and creativity within The Sims world. Solo play, playing with others, and playing across multiple devices will all be supported by the game. Pearson also said players will have the “ability to tell meaningful stories.”

As the game is so early in development, EA isn’t ready to share details yet of when we can expect it to be released. Instead, we’re promised more information as development progresses.
