Each eBay Live shopping event will be a live experience where shoppers can engage with a seller directly through a chat system. The seller will be able to present the products available for sale during the event, and anyone watching anywhere in the world can then buy them using the eBay app(Opens in a new window). eBay says Live uses “new beta technology” and offers a combination of entertainment and instant purchasing.
The first such event is happening at 3pm ET on June 22 and will be hosted by DJ Skee. Jess Mineo of Bleecker Trading will be on hand to offer a range of rare trading cards including a 1995 Topps Finest Michael Jordan M1 Red Bordered Refractor PSA 9 MINT and a 1998 Kobe Bryant Skybox That’s Jam PSA 10.

What’s not covered in the announcement is how the system will handle multiple people attempting to buy the same product. In the case of the Bleecker Trading event, for example, how will someone secure that rare Michael Jordan M1 card? Whatever the system is, it will have to be capable of dealing with thousands of people attempting to secure highly-desirable products without crashing.
