Prior to Wednesday night’s All-Star Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, the NASCAR Cup Series had only ran the showcase event outside of Charlotte once. In that version, Bill Elliott went to victory lane at Atlanta. Following Wednesday, you can make that two Elliotts to have won away from Charlotte, as his son, Chase, took the checkered flag in a largely dominant performance at the 0.5 mile venue.
Racing with underglow and in front of about 20K fans at the famed short track, Elliott would collect over $1 million by winning the race, pulling away from Kyle Busch and maintaining his lead during the final 15-lap sprint to the finish. Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five on the evening, but no one had anything for Elliott, who won three of the four stages of the race. The Elliotts joined the Earnhardts (Dale, Sr. and Dale, Jr.) as the only father-son duo to have won the race, another stat that will be remembered for years to come.
