Talk about a comeback. No one saw this one coming.

Herm Edwards, who currently works at ESPN as an analyst, is set to be hired by Arizona State as their next head football coach.

Edwards has not been in the college ranks since 1989 when he was the defensive backs coach for San Jose State. He eventually worked his way up the ranks to be the head coach for both the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively.

The Last time he held a head coaching job, or any type of coaching job for that matter, was with the Chiefs in 2008.

Needless to say, this will be a big adjustment for the former ESPN personality.

Edwards finished his NFL with a 54-74 overall record as a head coach with both the Jets and Chiefs.

As for the Sun Devils team he will be coaching, they have struggles as of late and have not been of national prominence since the early the turn of the century when Bruce Snyder was at the helm.

This year, they finished with a 7-5 overall record and will be bowl eligible. Thus, Edwards walks into a pretty good team. With this being said, the Sun Devils still have a long way to go.
