Hometown Magic: Homa Takes Genesis

Max Homa came into Sunday’s fourth and final round of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in a position where he could potentially strike. Still yet, things seemed like it was a little too good to be true when the day came to an end and he was holding the trophy. Sam Burns had led all weekend long, but he capitulated late in the final round to give way. Homa, the hometown hero, put himself three feet from victory on the 18th green, needing to just tap in his birdie to win.

Only it missed, forcing him to go to a playoff with Tony Finau. Once there, he hit the ball up against a tree, seemingly putting himself out of the running. But he pulled off a magical moment and tied the hole, forcing another. He’d make a par and Finau would make bogey on the additional hole, handing Homa the hometown win and catapulting him in the world’s top 50 players and also gets him in the Masters once more.
