‘I kicked my husband out of the delivery room – his phone call enraged me’

A mum has taken to Reddit to share how she had her husband kicked out of the delivery room before she gave birth to their daughter. Now she wants to know whether she is in the wrong after being given the cold shoulder

When it comes to giving birth, you hope your partner will be at your side to make the experience somewhat easier. Many partners try to distract their other half from the pain they’re experiencing by making light-hearted jokes, speaking about the future, or discussing potential baby names.

But one woman became so enraged with her husband in the delivery room that she ended up having him thrown out, causing him to miss the birth of their daughter. Taking to Reddit, she explained how her husband spent her entire labour on his phone either “playing games or talking with his bros”.

She said: “He really wanted to talk to them because his friends went on a boys’ trip without him because I asked him to stay back so he could be here when I went into labour.

“They were calling to tell him about how their trip was going. He apologised to them blaming it on me being a nag.

“I was really annoyed and told him if he wanted to talk to his friends he could do that elsewhere so I can be in pain in peace.”

Her husband finally agreed to hang up the call and switched his attention to his pain-stricken wife. But after comforting her for about 20 minutes, he became bored and answered a FaceTime call from his mum to help pass the time.

“I had about 20 minutes of peace until his mum FaceTimed him where he proceeded to put me in the video call,” she added.

“His mum makes a comment about how she remembers when she was in labour with him and that she still did herself up.

“She even claimed she looked so good the doctor even was flirting with her.

“I was holding back everything inside me to not say something as I didn’t want to disrespect my mother-in-law.

“But, at the same time, she sometimes just makes the stupidest comments at the worst times and at this moment I could not stand talking to her.”

During the phone call, a nurse entered her hospital room to check on how she was progressing and noticed she was upset.

She added: “A nurse ends up coming in and could tell I was upset and asks me if everything was alright and I tell her I just really want to be alone.

“She ends up kicking out my husband and in turn, he ends up missing the birth of our firstborn daughter because he left the hospital because he was p***ed off that I got the nurse to kick him out the room.”

But due to being kicked out, her bitter husband refused to meet his daughter following her birth. His mum backed him up and even started calling the woman names just hours after she had given birth.

“He refused to come see his daughter afterwards because he was angry at me for kicking him out,” she explained.

“My mother-in-law who did visit me in the hospital wouldn’t stop talking about how I’m such a bad wife for removing my husband from the room.

“When I got home he kept on bringing up how I ruined a moment of bonding with his daughter and how he could never forgive me for that.”

While most users agreed she was right to kick him out of the delivery room, others urged her to leave her marriage and raise her child as a single parent.

One user said: “He called her a nag to his friends while she was in labour. I feel like everything else pales compared to that. He doesn’t respect her or their child. I feel so bad for her.”

Another user added: “My question is how are they still married? This can’t be a one time thing.”

A third user said: “You can pretty much guarantee that dad is going to be completely hands off for all duties.”

One user added: “I have to wonder if her husband is not even mad about missing the birth of his child but rather is mad that he missed the boys trip when he ended up getting kicked out of the room anyway.”
