Pharmacist reveals why it ‘takes so long’ to prepare prescriptions

When we pick up a prescription, we will always wonder what the approximate 20-minute wait is for. Amber Paul on TikTok put the question precisely as she questioned why the prescription can’t be handed to her, considering that she can see it at just an arm’s length away.

“I can literally see the medicine on the shelf behind you, can’t you just grab it and give it to me? I’m sick and in a hurry,” she said. Answering the long-awaited question of why it really does take so long, pharmacist and social media star Mustafa D broke down the wait time into precise minutes – and the reason why.

TikTok star Mustafa – who has raked in over 288,000 followers from his top quality content – answered Amber’s video with the hope that it would settle any concerns.

He explained: “Ok, so it might take me about a minute to scan your details into the computer, process the prescription, get the medication and give it to you, right?

“But why are you waiting longer than a minute?

“Let’s just assume that there are four people waiting ahead of you and each person has about three prescriptions on average.

“Each prescription takes me about a minute, so that’s a 12-minute wait – and this is assuming that everything will run smoothly and I will not get interrupted.”

The pharmacist described that in the meantime of finishing your prescription, he’s also advising customers at the same time.

He said: “Keep in mind that not a single prescription can leave the dispensary without the pharmacist checking it first.

“So, if I’m over the counter helping someone, serving them, and giving them advice – all these prescriptions lined up here will have to wait.

“So, let’s just assume that I went and vaccinated someone and it took me five minutes – all of these prescriptions have to wait an extra five minutes and that brings your wait time to about 17 or 18 minutes.”

He added: “Oh, and most importantly, I’m also checking to make sure that the medication doesn’t kill you.

“But also, you waited for a few hours at the doctors, can’t you wait a few minutes for me?” He questioned.

Viewers rushed to the comment section over the video – with several TikTokers praising Mustafa for his hard work in the field.

“It’s medication going into our bodies. I’ll wait the extra time to make sure it’s correct,” one TikToker said.

Another added: “It’s like people assume pharmacists only chuck a label on the box and hand it out…”

The user replied: “I’ve literally seen people wait longer at maccas than they have at a pharmacy. The audacity.”
