Is Jayson Tatum playing tonight? Celtics star dealing with injury vs. Heat

Down 2-1 in the Eastern Conference Finals, there was a chance the Boston Celtics would be without their All-Star starting forward Jayson Tatum for Game 4 on Monday.

On Sunday, the Celtics announced that Tatum is probable to play against the Miami Heat due to a neck injury.

Tatum’s injury stems from a collision he had in Boston’s Game 3 loss on Sunday. It forced him to briefly leave the game but he did return in the closing moments.

Here is what we know about Tatum’s injury.

What is Jayson Tatum’s injury?

Tatum suffered a neck injury late in the fourth quarter of Boston’s Game 3 loss to the Miami on Saturday after colliding with Heat reserve guard Victor Oladipo. The Celtics star instantly went down in pain and after writhing on the court for quite some time, he left the game.

Tatum did return later in the fourth and was able to finish the game.

“My neck got caught in a weird position,” Tatum said about his injury postgame. “Obviously I went down and felt some pain and discomfort in my neck and down my arm, and then went to the back, got it checked on, and started to gain some feeling back and got it checked by the doctors and ran some tests and decided to give it a go.”

Will Jayson Tatum play in Game 4 vs. Heat?

The Celtics announced on Monday that Tatum will play in Game 4.

Tatum is coming off a poor showing in Game 3 as he struggled to get in a rhythm offensively and finished the game with just 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting, including 1-for-7 from 3. The Celtics All-Star forward also recorded six of Boston’s 23 turnovers.

“I’ve just got to play better,” Tatum said about his performance postgame. “It’s as simple as that. This time of the season, everything on the line, I’ve just got to play better.”
