The New York Jets, at least for a minutes, looked like they were going to snap their winless streak on Monday Night Football against the New England Patriots. After all, this was the perfect time to do it. The Patriots, in all honesty, have never been weaker than they are right now, and the 0-8 Jets had them reeling on the ropes with a 20-10 advantage at half time. They still had a 27-17 lead heading into the third, but that’s when it all fell apart as Cam Newton ensured they fell to 0-9- their worst-ever franchise start- thanks to orchestrating a 13-0 unanswered run in the fourth quarter.
Two Nick Folk field goals came in the final 6:04 of the game, the second of which was a 51-yarder as time expired that handed the Patriots the win. Between those field goals, Newton led a touchdown run that culminated in him plunging in from one yard away, tying the game with just under two minutes to go. That was his second running TD of the night, a night in which he had completed 27 of his 35 passes for 274 yards. Opposite number Joe Flacco went 18-25 with three touchdowns, an interception, and 262 yards. He found wide receiver Breshad Perriman twice for touchdowns, with one of them appearing to be the dagger right at the end of the third. With the victory, the Patriots improved to 3-5, while the Jets, of course, are now 0-9.
