John Farrell, Boston Red Sox Part Ways
This morning, the Boston Red Sox announced that manager John Farrell will not return for the 2018 season.
Farrell spent five seasons with the Red Sox. His first year he had immediate success as the Red Sox took home the World Series.
The following two seasons, however, were a different story. The two seasons the Red Sox did not make the playoffs, in 2014 and 2015, they finished last in the AL East.
This front office decision by the Red Sox was made following an early exit in the American League Divisional Series, which marks the second year in a row they have done so.
“After some thought processes, you weigh a lot of different things that become involved and to me, I thought it was the appropriate time to make a change for the betterment of the organization,” Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski said at a news conference Wednesday.
Dombrowski also said he has a list of potential candidates to fill the vacant position.
Whoever is fortunate enough to get this job will walk into a very talented Boston team that has a tremendous upside.
