He may be 34 years old now, but LeBron James continues to make waves in the NBA. And very few have ever been bigger than this one: a decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday after agreeing, according to Klutch Sports Agency, a four year deal worth $154m over the course of it. The King, as many have affectionately, called him will be joining his fourth team in his career and will be moving for the third time after having went from Cleveland to Miami and then back to Cleveland again.

This, though, is a massive move as it could put the Lakers back on the map. The team has gone five years without so much as making it to the playoffs, never once winning more than 35 games. The positive, obviously, is that they won that total this past season. With James, even if he had no additional help added, you’d have to back them to get over the .500 mark and make it to he playoffs again.

What this does is really begin to throw up questions about the current market. We have seen James be incredibly loyal to Cleveland in the past, playing with very little help at various times on either sides of his Miami stints. While he would play for the Cavs without stars around him, you can’t see him doing the same in Los Angeles. He wouldn’t have agreed to the move to Hollywood if they weren’t going to be bringing in some bigger names to help him out. While he is the first one through the door, it could be just the start now.

Others will want to join him, surely, and the bright lights of LA are sure to keep them from being distraught about the prospect. Many will question this move given that the Western Conference is clearly the more difficult of the two conferences in the NBA. However, his Cleveland team only came in fourth last year, yet he finished as Eastern Conference Champ again. Now, he’ll be going up against Golden State and Houston just to get to the NBA Finals. It will definitely take help to have a chance against those teams, but it’s apparent he is looking for a new challenge, and this definitely one full of intrigue that will only add to the show that the NBA is.
