LeBron James returned home to Cleveland for the first time after his latest move away on Wednesday night, and on the eve of Thanksgiving, the King was given a royal welcome by his former fans. LeBron was welcomed back as a conquering hero having done what was unthinkable in defeating the Golden State Warriors, and for that he was due his applause. He didn’t let down in this game, either, showing the Cavaliers exactly what they have been missing. He scored 32 points on 11/20 from the field, keeping up what has been laser sharp shooting of late. The Cavs are just 2-14 on the season (so much for being favorites there, Tristan Thompson), but that didn’t stop them from keeping this a close game throughout, with LeBron and the Lakers only finally pulling away to win 109-105 at the final buzzer.

Elsewhere in the NBA, the Golden State Warriors lost their fourth straight game, falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder 123-95. It’s been a long, long time since you could say the current dynasty in charge of the NBA has done that, and it takes you back to 2013 when it last occurred. Scoring issues have hurt the team, according to Kevin Durant, and they allowed the Thunder many more shots as well. On top of that, Draymond Green and Steph Curry are still out injured. That’s got to be the only thing keeping them from panicking right now. Another team trying not to hit the panic button is the Boston Celtics, who are in a slump of their own having lost a third consecutive game after falling to the horrific Knicks at home by a score of 117-109. Head coach Brad Stevens said that a lot of things needed to be fixed if they were to improve, and that is obviously the case after they allowed the Knicks to end a six game skid of their own.

In Hawaii, we got a bit of a shock on Wednesday in college hoops as #1 Duke fell to #3 Gonzaga in the Maui Invitational. The Blue Devils came into the game with many hyping them up as the greatest team in the history of college basketball, but that didn’t stop the Bulldogs from handing them their first loss of the season and making a case to move up the rankings, all while winning the crown as tournament winners. This is also a notable victory for the Zags, who got 20 points from Rui Hachimura, because they ended Duke’s unbeaten record in the Maui Invitational as well. Oh, and they did it with their best player sitting on the bench in a boot!
