The Tampa Bay Lightning have officially eliminated the Boston Bruins from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but it hasn’t been the easiest of things to accomplish, it must be said. Having won Game 2 in overtime and losing Game 1, they rattled off four wins in a row, culminating in Monday’s win, which also just so happened to happen in overtime… double overtime, in fact.
No one scored in the opening period, but the teams traded goals in the second with Ondrej Palat (Lightning) and David Pastrnak scoring. Anthony Cirelli gave the Lightning the advantage in the third, but a late goal from David Krejci, on a tough bounce no less, equalized and set us up for OT. Victor Hedman would play the role of hero here, taking his second chance in 2OT to fire home and send the Lightning into the next round of the playoffs. It will be their fourth Eastern finals in the last six years.
