Maryland Wins Shootout Vs Minnesota

It wasn’t a marquee match up for the ages in the Big Ten on Friday night as Maryland and Minnesota, both of which lost their opening games of the season last weekend, clashed. But that didn’t mean it was not an entertaining affair that opened the conference’s offerings this weekend. When the dust had settled it was the Terrapins that came out on top, winning 45-44 in overtime over the Golden Gophers.

How they got their was extraordinary, with them scoring 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 38 and force an overtime period. Taulia Tagovailoa, the brother of Tua, went 26-35 for the Terrapins while throwing for almost 400 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. The running game, though, was perhaps the most impressive part of this one, with both teams’ running backs racking up over 200 yards apiece. Jake Funk had 216, and a TD, on 21 carries for the Terrapins while Mohamed Ibrahim had 207, with four TD’s, on 41 tough carries. The win move Maryland to 1-1 thus far, while Minnesota is 0-2 in the conference-only shortened season.
