Some of Major League Baseball’s biggest stars shined brightest on Friday night. We’ll start out tour with Gerrit Cole, who was on the mound looking for a 20th consecutive victory on the mound. He grabbed that honor, becoming just the sixth major league pitcher ever to do so, via throwing seven very solid innings in a 10-3 win for the New York Yankees over the Boston Red Sox. He gave up just a single run and only four hits in a miserly showing, helping hold off his team’s rivals until their bats finally came alive.

Elsewhere, two of the games biggest field players were shining. Cody Bellinger would lead the Dodgers past the Angels in an all-LA affair. He smashed two home runs on the evening in a 7-4 win. After his second, in the eighth inning, they led 7-1, so he gave them that dominant gap to go on and win. And finally, we have Bryce Harper. Much has been said about him and his skills, but there is no doubting his potential to do damage with the game on the line. That’s what he did on this night, hitting a walk-off single to take his Phillies past the Mets. It was a dramatic play at the plate in the bottom of the ninth, but Roman Quinn slid his hand in safely, handing the Phillies another win and confining the Mets to yet another loss.
