Gender reveal blunder as pink smoke fills family garden

A mum-to-be’s recent gender reveal party didn’t exactly go to plan after the pink “smoke bombs” proved far more powerful than expected.

Mandy Morgan-Smith hoped to celebrate the 17-week mark of pregnancy with a memorable gender reveal, but ended up getting more than she’d bargained for.

The all-important grand reveal held on Saturday, May 7, ended in “just five seconds” flat after the smoke bombs engulfed the garden in a theatrical fashion.

Family members were left “struggling to breathe”, as the “stinking” pink smoke forced them to flee back indoors.

It certainly made for an unforgettable sight, despite not being exactly the sort of thing Mandy had in mind.

Footage taken at the event shows Mandy, 22, and three-year-old daughter Willow-Rae Morgan-Smith, three, setting off two smoke bombs, with the pink smoke heralding the arrival of a baby girl.

However, cheers and applause from assembled family members quickly turned to cries of panic, as the smoke billowed all around, drastically cutting their visibility.

The chaotic footage was taken by grandma-to-be Tammy Smith, who could be heard yelling “I can’t breathe” as she instructs son McCalley Morgan-Smith, 25, to bring one-year-old Ellie Morgan-Smith down from the trampoline.

Mandy, from Grangetown, Cardiff, spent a total of £36 on two pink smoke bombs and two blue ones, intending to go “all-out” with her big reveal.

The mum-of-ones she had no idea that the £9 canisters would create such enormous plumes of smoke.

However, she has since declared that she “wouldn’t change it for the world”, with the family finding the scene that unfolded to be absolutely hilarious.

Mandy said: “Everything went to plan at first. I was over the moon with it being a girl, but then straight away I was thinking ‘oh my god I can’t breathe’.

“It just wouldn’t stop, it got worse and worse. We thought it would have died down, it filled up our garden, the neighbour’s garden, then right to the third floor of our house.

“My mum was thinking about the kids and making sure they were alright, I just took my daughter and ran in. It only lasted about five seconds then we had to get out of the way quickly.”

She continued: “It’s a weird, strong smell, it’s not nice at all, I can’t quite explain it. You’ve just got to make a joke about it. It’s hilarious, the video is great.

“Because there’s a lot of smoke, it’s probably not good to inhale that much. Luckily nobody was really struggling. We just got inside.

“The smoke bombs threw out a lot more smoke than I thought, it just really shocked us all. It was definitely more eventful than having a coloured balloon.

“It’s such a great memory and it’s great to make everyone laugh. I can’t wait to show my future daughter that she was causing a riot before she was born.”

Fortunately, the family was able to proceed with their celebrations after the smoke cleared away, and the hilariously dramatic video has since clocked up more than 130,000 likes on TikTok.

One person commented: “It was so exciting and cheerful and then it just turned into like a horror movie.”

Another said: “Well it is a smoke grenade like used at football games what did you expect.”
