NASCAR Considering Changing Lineup System

Due to Covid-19 and the need to keep the cost to teams as low as possible, NASCAR has implemented a system of no practice or qualifying since the resumption of the series back in May. That move has largely been received well, with most agreeing that the racing has been better due to teams being forced to figure it out on the track.

Currently, if you are in the top 12, you have a chance to randomly draw the pole, but for the upcoming ‘playoffs’ in the Cup Series, they are looking into alternatives to that. If the no practice/qualifying format continues, then it looks like they might lump all of the playoff drivers into one ‘hat’ and all the non-playoff drivers into another and then draw. It’s anyone’s guess as for now, but we do know that for the next month, we’ll keep on seeing the current system employed.
