Following the firing of Ben McAdoo in the latter parts of the season, the New York Giants have narrowed down their search to three potential candidates: Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia and Pat Shurmur.

As of now, the three have a very equal shot at filling the vacancy.

Both Patricia and McDaniels are apart of the New England Patriots dynasty that has been built under Bill Belichick. Patricia is one of the most revered defensive coordinators while McDaniels has built up one of the most lethal offenses in the NFL.

Both a very viable candidates, it really comes down to what kind of head coach the Giants want. They already have a very successful defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnolo, who returned to the Giants recently after a short head coaching stint with the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants also have some of the best defensive talents in the league, but were plagued by injuries and locker room problems this season.

The offense, on the other hand, is where the Giants need an immense amount of help. Eli Manning is heading towards the end of his career and the offensive line is one of the worst in the league. What makes the offense even more suspect, is their inability to run the the ball. The ground attack has been very below average which, in turn, provides for a very weak pass game because they are not able to set up any play action.

The final candidate is Shurmur, who currently serves as the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings. Leading the vikings to a very successful season with backup quarterback Case Keenum, Shurmur has made his case known that he is capable of being a very good head coach.

It is likely that the Giants will lean towards hiring an offensive minded coach because of how much help they need on that side of the ball. However, Patricia is more than qualified to be a head coach as well.
