The Carolina Hurricanes took a step closer to the ‘official’ NHL Playoffs on Monday night as they went up 2-0 in a best-of-five series with the New York Rangers with a decisive 4-1 win. They were aided immensely by the play of Andrei Svechnikov, who recorded a hat trick and Sebastian Aho, who had a trio of assists on the day.
Svechnikov, though, was not the only man to record a hat trick on the day, as the Edmonton Oilers also got one from Connor McDavid as he led them to a crucial 6-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. His first goal came inside 20 seconds, and it helped his team level up the series at one game apiece, giving them a chance to take the series lead next time out in Game 3.
