OnePlus today announced plans to increase the number of OxygenOS upgrades it releases for specific devices, starting in 2023. It also provided details about OxygenOS 13.1 and teased future changes coming with OxygenOS 14.
4 OS Upgrades, 5 Years of Security Patches
OnePlus will offer four major OxygenOS upgrades and five years of security patches to select phones sold in 2023 and beyond. Unfortunately, the company didn’t reveal what phones would get the longer upgrade period, but we can guess that its high-end flagships will be first in line while the budget releases will not.
According to Gary Chen, Head of Software Products at OnePlus, “this new update policy will give users access to the latest security and functional features required to power OnePlus’ signature fast-and-smooth experience throughout the lifetime of the phone.”
Samsung also offers four years of One UI upgrades and five years of security updates for most of its devices. Apple’s iOS 16 currently supports phones going back to the iPhone 8.
OxygenOS 13.1 and OxygenOS 14
We already know what OnePlus plans to bring to OxygenOS 13, as it’s already been released for several of the company’s popular phones. But the company is already working on OxygenOS 13.1 and plans to release it during the first half of 2023.

According to OnePlus, “enhanced safety will be a key focus area implemented through an improved version of OnePlus’ Private Safe function introduced in OxygenOS 13, along with other privacy features.” The company also says it plans to focus on digital health and well-being with an increased emphasis on accessibility features for users with disabilities with OxygenOS 13.1.
While OnePlus didn’t say much about OxygenOS 14, it did point out that it’s already thinking about it. “The future of OxygenOS is one that is safer, more stable, smarter, more globally capable, and with better support for our expanding ecosystem of products,” said Chen.
