Openly-Gay Latin Trap Artist Kevin Fret Shot Dead In Puerto Rico
Kevin Fret, an openly-gay Latin musician has been killed.
As RadarOnline.com has learned, the 24-year-old performer was fatally shot in San Juan, Puerto Rico this Thursday, January 10, 2019.
The “Soy Asi” singer — who was known for his colorful, flamboyant outfits and dazzling makeup — was attacked at around 5:30 a.m. while riding his motorcycle in Santurce, El Nuevo Día reported.
He was soon transported to Medical Center of Río Piedras, where he died.
“Kevin was an artistic soul, a dreamer with a big heart,” Fret’s manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, told Remezcla after his death. “His passion was music, and he still had a lot left to do.”
Fret was known in the Latin music industry as the first mainstream gay trap artist. His death — which is still being investigated — is being seen my many as a targeted homophobic crime.
“This violence should stop. There are no words to describe our emotions and the pain that it causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go,” added Rodriguez. “We should all unite in these difficult times, and ask for lots of peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.”
