A mum-to-be has been left feeling ‘disgusted’ at her husband, after he started experiencing sympathetic pregnancy symptoms including morning sickness – but she feels he’s mimicking her

Any mum will tell you that pregnancy is no walk in the park. While it’s no doubt a magical time for millions of soon-to-be mums, many are plagued sickness, hormonal changes and fatigue throughout the nine months of growing a little human.
So, it’s no surprise that many new mums will be left feeling a little cranky and it’s not unreasonable for them to want their partners, family and friends to be understanding of that.
One woman, however, has been left feeling frustrated, after venting to her partner about pregnancy illness – only for her hubby to start complaining of the same symptoms.
In fact, it went so far that her husband started experiencing phantom morning sickness, and would regularly throw up while the mum-to-be was also suffering the same fate.
“I’m now 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby and I’ve been experiencing morning sickness and it’s been horrible (like constantly throwing up),” the woman explained on Reddit.
“A while after I first started experiencing morning sickness, my husband has also started to experience something similar. I was told that sometimes husbands can also experience this and it’s called sympathetic pregnancy.”

Is it sweet, or is it just plain infuriating? Unsurprisingly, the woman has been left feeling the latter, and says she’s “disgusted and p***ed off” every time she sees him being sick, as he’ll never understand “the constant discomfort and pain” of actually being pregnant.
“It feels as if he’s just mimicking me, like he’ll never truly understand how hard this pregnancy is,” she continued.
“I’m so torn because I know there’s nothing he can do but I just feel so frustrated and it’s really affecting how I act around him. Because now I don’t like having him around me.”
The expecting couple have had several arguments about it, and the wife has been left questioning whether she’s reasonable to feel so furious about her husband’s sympathy sickness.
“I think – and I mean this in the most validating way possible, I swear – your hormones might be clouding your judgement here,” one Reddit user responded.
“When you’re pregnant you’re much more likely to go 0 to 100 immediately over things that are really only like a 20. It’s important to note that you’re allowed to be annoyed and upset about it, it’s how you act on it that’s the important thing.”
Meanwhile, another added: “I just had a baby and I get it. I think hormones are playing a part and also I think you should talk to someone about it, especially if you have any other anxiety or depression symptoms. Because if you’re being triggered by him being sick NOW, you’re going to really resent when he doesn’t go through labour and doesn’t have to wake up as much at night and his life doesn’t change as much as yours.
“I remember after 36 hours of labour, tearing, bleeding two litres, and preeclampsia my husband, who had slept in the hospital, said he was tired and I almost lost my mind. But he was tired. We can both be tired.”
