Though the English Premier League’s title had been determined weeks (or even months ago, realistically), there was still plenty left to play for on the final day of the season on Sunday. The last two Champions League places were up for grabs, and in the end they went to Manchester United and Chelsea after both clubs won 2-0 over Leicester City and Wolves respectively.
Had Leicester beaten United, they would have been in and United would have been out. Coming into the day, Norwich City had been relegated to the second division, but they were officially joined by Watford and Bournemouth. Meanwhile, in Italy, the Serie A title winners were crowned as Juventus finally put the inevitable to bed with two games left to spare. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 31st goal of the season as he led the Old Lady to a 2-0 win over Sampdoria. The title is ninth in a row that they have won in Italy, but now they will turn their attentions toward a more elusive prize: the UEFA Champions League.
