Rahm Wins Memorial, Goes To World #1

Nothing is ever set in stone in the world of golf until it’s official, but Jon Rahm was about as sure to win on Sunday as anyone in a long time. That’s not to say he’s perfect, or that no one else is capable of putting a run together. It’s just how tough Muirfield Village was playing at the Memorial. He had a four-shot lead after Saturday, and he made use of it.

He was so strong at one point on Sunday, and the course was so ridiculously tough, that he was eight clear. He finished at -9 having shot a 75 (he got a penalty for a moving ball on the 16th when he had executed a miraculous-looking chip) and ended up three ahead of Ryan Palmer for the win. That win also means he is the world’s top golfer now, becoming the second man from Spain to do so after fabled Seve Ballasteros, his idol.
