Rams Shutdown Pats, Improve To 9-4

The Los Angeles Rams were good on Thursday night. So good on defense, in fact, that one of the big takeaways from the game was that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick had to insist that Cam Newton was still their starting quarterback. That’s just how good the Rams were on this evening as they trotted toward a 24-3 win that puts them at 9-4 on the season. In total, they allowed just 220 yards from the Pats, all the while giving up just ten first downs in the entire game.

Neither quarterback was particularly impressive, with neither of them getting 150 yards passing and both having a touchdown to give with an interception. But the big start, apart from the stifling LA defense, was Cam Akers. The running back was tremendous on the ground, picking up 171 yards on 29 carries. On the other side of the ball, Kenny Young had an interception that he returned for a TD that helped set the tone. That win clinched a fourth consecutive winning season for the Rams and it sees them take a big step closer to making it to the playoffs once more. The Patriots, meanwhile, are just 6-7, which is third in the AFC East. It’s not looking like playoffs are on the cards for them this year, so that’s going to be a different look and feel to what we have become accustomed to seeing.
