Raptors Narrowly Stay In Series, Clippers Take Game 1 Over Nuggets

The Toronto Raptors desperately needed a win on Thursday night to have any legitimate or realistic hope of being able to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Going into a 3-0 hole, let’s just face it, would not be good for them or anyone, for that matter. Somehow, some way, they pulled one out of the fire against the Boston Celtics on the evening. A late run from the Celtics had them up by four, but the Raptors just would not quit. A late bucket by Daniel Theis had put the Celtics up 103-101 with just 0.5 ticks of the clock remaining.

A timeout was called, and the ball was advanced up the court, but surely there would be no chance. Yet, Kyle Lowry found OG Anunoby- over the towering Tacko Fall- in the opposite corner and he drained a three-pointer to win it at 104-103 and give the defending champions a chance in the series. Lowry finished with 31 points, on top of the massive assist, while Kemba Walker had 29 for the team that was so close to going into a nearly unassailable position. In the night cap, it was the Los Angeles Clippers that eased toward victory over the Denver Nuggets, seeing them off by a score of 120-97. Kawhi Leonard had 29 points, while Denver’s high scorer, Nikola Jokic, had just 15 on a night where they never got out of first- ok maybe second- gear. You can’t really blame them, either, following the draining series they had with Utah that finished just a couple of days ago.
