It was a great day, you’d have to say for Tampa (and Florida) sports fans. The Lightning took Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals to go up 2-1, and their baseball team, the Rays, were able to clinch their first AL East crown since 2010 after they defeated the New York Mets 8-5 on Wednesday.
Randy Arozarena was the big hero on the evening for them as he hit two home runs that drove in three combined runs to make the difference in the end as the Mets made an effort to rally in the bottom of the ninth. Joey Wendle and Brandon Lowe also homered for them in the game. This is the third time they have won their division, and they have accomplished it despite having the third-lowest salary in the majors. They are at 37-20 now, and they are close to ensuring the top seed in the AL, so they will have more work to do in the next few days to seal that up.
