Buffalo Bills left guard Richie Incognito is retiring due to medical issues, mainly as a result of too much physical and mental stress.

“I’m done, I’m done, that’s it,” Incognito told The Buffalo News. “It’s been a long career. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. Nothing I can’t restore with some balance, but the stress is killing me.

“I went to a doctor’s appointment the other day and they said, ‘Listen, the stress is killing you, what are you doing?’ And I said, ‘Listen, I’m just doing what I love and that’s playing football.’ So that’s why I’m done.”

Incognito took a $1.675 million pay cut last month to close out the final year of his three-year contract with the Bills. However, he said that this paycut was not the reason that he is retiring.

“It pisses me the f— off,” Incognito said. “The contract and all that pissed me the f— off and all that, but (retiring) has nothing do do with that.”

Incognito also made multiple tweets about his retirement, directed at his sports agency, Athletes First, and the NFL players association.

Incognito was the main perpetrator in one of the biggest scandals in NFL history when he played for the Dolphins. The incident involved then-rookie Jonathan Martin being harassed by Incognito.

Since signing with the bills in 2015, Incognito has made the Pro Bowl in his last three years.
