It had been quite the crazy off season in regards to Jimmy Butler, and it now looks like it could be bleeding over into the regular season with news that the Houston Rockets are looking into bringing him in. According to reports, the Rockets are prepared to offer four future first round draft picks in exchange for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ All-Star small forward. This would constitute the most picks you could offer in a trade at once, and it would certainly have to tempt the T-Wolves into thinking about the offer, especially if they feel that Butler is undermining the team with his attitude. It looks like a deal could come next Wednesday, as Houston has to wait until then to have the salary to do the deal. But if, and it’s still a big if, this does happen, it could be just the thing that helps Houston close the gap to the Warriors.

In terms of actual on-court action on Thursday night, we got to see LeBron James have his first commanding display in a Los Angeles Laker uniform as he had a triple-double to help them improve to 2-3 on the season with a 121-114 win over the Denver Nuggets. With Kobe Bryant watching, and cheering, him on, James scored 28 points, had 11 assists, and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead them to a win that will make the whole city feel a lot better about their team. It was the first home win for James as a Laker as well, which many will expect to be the first of many.

In college football, there were a couple of upsets on Thursday night. No. 25 Appalachian State, ranked for the first in school history, fell on the road to Georgia Southern 34-14 without their starting running back and quarterback. Without their best two players, they just looked lost, and the Eagles took advantage to improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Sun Belt. Could they now find themselves ranked? The other notable game featured another Georgia schedule, as Georgia Tech demolished Virginia Tech 49-28 on the back of a 215 yard running display from QB Tobias Oliver. The loss in Blacksburg was the first for VA Tech in the ACC this season and just the second for the Yellow Jackets in the conference (4-4 overall).
