Penn State running back Saquon Barkley is one of the best college talents in recent memory. Culminating his junior year with a Fiesta Bowl win, Barkley explained in an interview after the game that he is “not even focused” on making the decision to stay at Penn State or declare for the NFL draft.

“A lot of people think it’s any easy decision,” Barkley said. “Because you’re able to play football in the NFL and make money and be able to support your family, but this place is special to me. I’m kind of torn.”

Barkley, who is rated the No. 1 overall draft prospect by ESPN’s Mel Kiper and No. 2 by ESPN’s Todd McShay, is would likely be taken in the top three draft picks which are currently held by the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts respectively.

Looming large in the mind of Barkley is also a few things that, as he says, are left unfinished if he were to declare for the NFL draft. One of which is bringing home a national championship to Happy Valley.

“I didn’t finish what I wanted here,” he said. “I wanted to bring a national championship to this school. I wanted to break every rushing record. I didn’t get that.”

Following the Nittany Lions 35-28 win over the Washington Huskies in the 2017 PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, Barkley was in high spirits. However, for some reason, watching it live, it seemed as if he knew that this would be his last game as a Nittany Lion.

Regardless of the decision that Barkley meakes, he has done more for this university than anyone ever asked him to do. Both a class act and a lethal threat on the field, Barkley’s impact will never be forgotten.
