There’s no worse feeling than seeing your child in pain and knowing you can’t take the hurt away for them. Savvy mum Chelsea Dyan – who has gained a large following with her ‘simple mum hacks’ has come to the rescue to help soothe the cuts and bruises of little ones with a child-friendly and inexpensive 85p life hack.

The method will come in handy for those who don’t happen to have an ice pack at home, as it turns out you can use an unexpected item from your kitchen cupboards instead. Taking to the popular video-streaming service TikTok, the mum revealed how a packet of mini marshmallows could make a world of difference.

Alternatively, those that have gobbled up marshmallows as a sweet treat will find that it costs as little as 85p to grab yourself a packet from popular supermarkets, including Lidl.

Chelsea started by placing a portion of marshmallows in a zip lock bag before putting them in the freezer for three hours.

Whilst the simple trick may seem a little questionable at first, the TikToker claims that it does wonders for her children.

Chelsea captioned the post: “Save this one for later! These homemade ‘ice packs’ are SO much easier to form around little limbs to help heal the owies.”

She explained: “I’ve got a hack for healing kid’s boo-boos, and all it takes is that pack of marshmallows that you’ve got somewhere in the back of your pantry.

“Grab yourself some mini marshmallows and a zip lock bag, and away you go – you’re just going to pour those straight into the bag, lay it out flat, get all the air out, and it’s ready for the freezer.

“Once it’s been in there for three hours then it’s ready to go!” She added.

“The good thing about this hack is that marshmallows get really cold in the freezer, but they still stay soft so you can form around where the owie is.”

Since posting, the video has rocketed in views, having surpassed 237,000 to date, and TikTokers have rushed to the comments to share their gratitude for the useful hack – with some even sharing alternative ideas of their own.

“Love this idea, thank you,” one person wrote.

A second gushed: “Oh my I have young adults & teen and never ever saw or heard of this. AMAZING!”

A third joked about an additional use of the marshmallows: “And then they eat the marshmallows after they stop crying and done!”

Another user suggested: “You can also use unpopped popcorn kernels.”

“Orbees in the fridge for my little one for minor bumps so it’s not too cold on her skin,” a fourth added.
