SEC Guarantees Scholarship To Opt-Outs

One of the uncertainties surrounding Covid-19 has been whether or not college athletes would receive the scholarships promised to them in the event that sports either didn’t play or they decided to opt out of playing.

The SEC has taken a step to answer that question on Friday, stating that any fall sport athlete that wished to opt out of playing would still receive his or her scholarship as originally promised. Having said all of that, the player must be in “good standing” with the team, so they will need to get approval of some kind before doing so. For now, this only applies to fall sports, but there is a chance that it can be extended to the spring if needed.
